WINE CRITICS : 93 Points, Monica Larner, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Brunello di Montalcino is made according to classic winemaking tradition. The fruit is fermented in stainless steel and later aged in barrel (made with both Slavonian and Allier oak) for 30 months. The bouquet is bright and layered with all kinds of smaller berry fruit followed by plum, spice and toasted nut. In no small feat, this wine avoids feeling too light or thin. It is a mid-weight effort with good power and structure to push it forward over the palate. Production is capped at 20,000 bottles. This is a very successful interpretation of a difficult vintage." 02/19

Vinous Media
90 Points, Ian d'Agata, Vinous: "Red-ruby. Musky aromas of redcurrant, mocha, menthol and underbrush, lifted by a hint of blood orange. Then concentrated, sweet and savory if a bit dusty, with ripe flavors of dark cherries and smoky oak dominating. There's enough ripe fruit here given the vintage's characteristics (cold, rainy, much of the Sangiovese in Montalcino failed to ripen properly) but the dry-edged, assertive tannins limit this wine's appeal. Big, bold and very tannic in typical Talenti style but I would have liked a bit more primary fruit and lift. In any case, this is a very good showing for the year, and it also strikes me as a much better balanced wine than some other past vintages from Talenti."

91 Points, James Suckling, jamessuckling.com: "Some savory notes of earth and walnuts here, as well as a slightly dusty array of dried cherries. The palate has a tart red-fruit core and approachable, if firm tannins. Drink now." 11/19

Wine Spectator Notes 92 Points, Bruce Sanderson, : "A rich, muscular style, featuring a core of pure cherry alongside strawberry, floral and black pepper flavors. Dense, with tight tannins that leave a burr on the finish. Best from 2022 through 2038. 1,700 cases made, 415 cases imported." 06/19.

ABOUT THE WINE A selection of 100% sangiovese, grown in the oldest vineyards that surround the estate (400 m MSL), is only used in exceptional vintages to create Riserva Pian di Conte. The south-easterly exposed soils are made up of sandy loam and plenty of heavy stone. The wine ages in 500-litre French oak tonneaux and 15/25-Hl Slavonian oak barrels for at least 24 months, followed by a period of bottle ageing. The wine has a deep red colour and a fresh, complex bouquet rich in scents of ripe red fruit, plums, cherry, blackberry and raspberry, accompanied by spicy scents that develop with age, such as chocolate, tobacco and liquorice. The mouth features a potent, toned body with a good balance and smoothness, with sweet and elegant tannins in the finish.

ABOUT THE TERROIR & ESTATE: The estate has been developed around an old farm called “Pian di Conte”, not far from Sant’Angelo in Colle, on the southern slope of the municipality of Montalcino, which has been restructured and expanded over the years. The property occupies an area of 40 hectares, among vineyards, olive groves, orchards and seed crops, surrounded by age-old holm-oak woods, characteristic of the Montalcino area.We cultivate and tend our land with respect for tradition, harvesting the grapes and olives by hand. The vineyards are divided into eleven different plots, each with different altitude, exposure and soil composition, creating red wines that are incredibly complex and profound. We have always had a passion for the cultivation of olives which are a very traditional element within the Tuscan landscape. We grow the Correggiolo and Moraiolo varieties, from which a bright green and intensely scented oil is extracted.

ABOUT THE WINERY In the 1950s Pierluigi Talenti moved from Romagna to the gently rolling and sunny hills of Montalcino. After a few years, he decided to acquire the estate and all its lands he had fallen in love with.Through the years, he devoted his time to the clonal research of Sangiovese all over Montalcino, taking his wines to the highest levels of quality. Today, his grandson Riccardo Talenti runs the winery and continues that research with the utmost respect for tradition, working with the very same passion and determination.
